OOC:  Here is the kickoff to the RP we discussed before.  It will be a traveling RP of sorts, as we search for the caravan that Katriel used to travel with.  Katriel is in search of her former caravan after running into a couple of them during the Fort Farragut battle.  There are some surprises in store so lets get this kicked off!

It had been a couple of weeks since he had been at Farragut, but he still felt the sting of the blades that had touched his flesh, still felt the warmth of his enemies' blood on his face.  He had been in battles before, large and small, but the battle at Farragut had pushed him to a new level, he had to become something else a midst the flying blades and screaming wounded.  But of everything that happened he still remembered that Bosmer, she had smiled at him, it had been quite strange, maybe that's why he had spared her and merely kicked her away...no he had been scrambling for the portal...it didn't matter anymore, did it?

He ducked as he walked through the opening to the tent, another dead end.  He had been searching tirelessly for well over twenty-four hours, trying to get some sort of hint about this caravan that Katriel was searching for.  His mind had dulled and his movements were becoming sluggish and methodical, but he refused to quit, he had to find this caravan for Katriel...maybe then she would pay him more attention...maybe.

After the battle at Farragut had ended, and the funerals and celebrations were concluded she had confided in him and the other house members something close to her heart.  She had seen someone from her past and was determined to find the rest, she would have gone on her own, but he and the others cared for her and wouldn't allow her to endure this on her own.  He had seen it, Katriel's mask had faded, even if only for a brief moment it had faded and she revealed something, she was terrified.

Alandauron knew Katriel well enough to know she was not terrified for herself, but for those that she once knew...no that she still knew and still cared for.  He would not fail her in this, and he decided not to return empty handed.  He had some time before they were set to meet back at camp, he didn't want to see that look of disappointment once again, maybe he could find out something useful...hopefully, he couldn't take that look again, he didn't want to see her in pain.

Gogron had wandered from their camp south of Narsis and into the trading square. He had walked through the city streets with his head held high, ignoring the xenophobic leers of the Dunmer. He was a pretty princess, and he knew it. Not like he’d have any trouble from the Hlaalu House Guard. When you’re a 7’2” green behemoth, with muscles to shame a heroic statue, not many mess with you. N’wah or otherwise. The aging Orsimer made a seat out of a barrel of ale. Shamelessly, and with a sweet smile, he took a Dunmer’s tankard from his hand, topped it off, and began to enjoy his drink. The Dunmer froze in place, like a horrified statue, before wandering off in a daze.

During the breaks when he wasn’t drinking, he strummed an oud, playing instrumental songs of the Redguards that he had brutally murdered last week. An Orsimer needs his hobbies, after all. When the sun shone bright in the sky, Gogron got what he was waiting for. A letter, with a single black tassel around it, with a wax seal devoid of any ornamentation. With a delighted chortle, Gogron patted the trembling courier on the head with his monstrously large hands. He took his oud, killed the tankard of ale, and walked back to camp.

After another hour of searching he was still empty handed, he had left the town reluctantly to head back towards their camp.  As he approached the location of their camp he noticed a warm glow, they must have started up a fire for cooking or to stay warm, the air had begun to take on a crispness to it.

He got closer to the camp and noticed Katriel kneeling near to the fire, she was still wearing that same outfit she had acquired after the battle at Farragut.  His wrist began to throb at the site of her, he couldn’t help but smile as he remembered how himself and some others had foolishly tried grabbing at her during the celebrations after the battle.  Her strength had surprised him as she snatched his hand and snapped his wrist.

His smile quickly faded as he remembered that he brought no news for her, nothing of worth at least, then he noticed her face…she was smiling.  He paused for a moment, taking the time to enjoy her smile before revealing himself, as he appeared her smile was quickly replaced by her usual mask.

The camp wasn’t anything special but was tactically setup, one tent sat in the middle of the camp, the campfire several feet in away from the entrance.  Alandauron remembered Katriel and Gogron having a disagreement, Gogron wanted Katriel to have the tent for herself, Katriel wanted no sort of special treatment.  She had said she was just as tough as anyone else in the group, Gogron maintained his calm smile throughout the entire spat and merely continued pressing his point.

Though Katriel was up and moving around it was obvious her wounds had not fully healed, though she was far too stubborn to allow that to stop her.  Alandauron knew that Gogron was concerned for her just as he was, with her in the tent she would not only have privacy but would also be protected.  In the end Gogron’s patience won out over Katriel’s stubbornness, it had been both interesting and terrifying watching the ordeal play out.

Katriel had insisted that the provisions be stored in the tent as well, Alandauron assumed that it was merely her way of maintaining a form of control over the decision.  Even with all the provisions in the tent she still had over half of it to herself, it was a rather large tent…Alandauron wondered how Gogron managed to carry the thing in his pack without skipping a step.

The rest of the group slept in bedrolls outside of the tent, forming a sort of perimeter around it, Alandauron didn’t mind, he had lived in the forest a good portion of his life.  He enjoyed looking up at the stars as he drifted off to sleep.

Ralyn had been hopping along the devastated ruins of Farragut. Enough time had passed, he figured, that the maggots had germinated well and the beetles began to move in.

He was never a fan of gore; this being one of the reasons he was in the Morag Tong and not the Fighter's Guild. Much cleaner to kill with poison or a stab in the back than a battleaxe to the gut. He held his arm out steadily over the Dominion corpse and waited for the flies to land.

To one who didn't know Ralyn, it looked like a prayer, and in a way, it was - a prayer for knowledge from Magnus, or Julianos, or Hermaeus Mora, or whoever grants understanding. A fly landed. He brought his hand in close to see the specimen.

It was slender and black. White specks danced across its carapace. Its large compound eyes were Pact crimson. A common Flesh Fly. These adults would dine with their young on the body.

Then a white flash darted across Ralyn's arm and the fly was gone. A quick glance above and he could see the cause - a Robber Fly. Much more slender, with spines all over it. The swollen yet sleek abdomen told why it was here - to lay her eggs. Its pipe-like mouth speared into the Flesh Fly struggling to get out of its cage-like legs. The smaller fly's eyes went brown. The Robber Fly's coal-black eyes betrayed no thoughts or emotions, though Ralyn liked to believe it had them.

At his feet, a different scene played out. The meat-eating beetles, relatives of the shalk, were already halfway through the body, having chewed through the leather straps and armor they helped to decompose and return to the hungry Nirn. The soldier's body had been torn only by blades; nature's treatment of the dead was quite gentle as the ravaging insects only expanded the mortal wounds and bore holes into the weaker flesh.

Ralyn steeled himself and lifted the Dominion warrior's helmet. Crawlers like carrion-eating millipedes and ants fell out of the helmet and attached scalp. The skull was still in one piece, excluding the broken nose. The brain was still intact despite the desiccated unit it was housed in. A lone beetle that made its home in the bridge of the nose had crawled out of the open wound. The brain, then, was exposed and subject to rot.

He then moved to the chest cavity. The steel chestplate was lifted to reveal a deflated chest. Ralyn took a spare knife and cut into it, looking for more of the beetles to record. Ralyn's gloved hand reluctantly reached in and pulled back the ribcage, slicing the cartilage that held it together to peer at the heart. Miraculously, the decomposers had stayed out of the heart, which appeared as though it could still beat.

Xivilli would be jealous, Ralyn thought to himself. The double-meaning was funny, to him.

A single artery still passed stale blood, and the Flesh Flies quickly swarmed into the new opening, eager to feast and fulfill their purpose. Ralyn quickly brushed them away from the heart. He had always thought it ironic that alchemists had found that the heart, the life and soul of a creature, was a main ingredient for a poison. He placed the heart back into its place. The flies who had gathered to fill the cavity flew off to make way for its return.

Ralyn wiped the blood on his greaves and stood up, turning to see the battlefield. Every corpse was similar to this one, regardless of faction or race. He only needed to scour one.

Iniana

As she circled the camp she had followed Katriel to she was surprised to see someone else outside the camp.  He was standing outside the camp just watching...he must be planning his attack, I can't let him take Katriel from me...  She moved quickly but almost completely without sound, as she drew closer to her target she drew a dagger from her waist and slowed her approach.  As she drew ever closer she realized she recognized the mer, it was the very same mer that had kicked her square in her chest.  She rubbed her chest unconsciously remembering the pain from the kick, it hadn't slowed her down but she carried a rather large bruise for several days.

A smile crossed her lips as she prepared to pounce...I get revenge and get to save my mentor with a single strike...

Alandauron

He peered through the trees watching Katriel move about with a happier demeanor than he had seen in a very...scratch that he had never seen her in this bright of spirit.  Finally, he stepped through the trees and revealed himself, her expression changed almost instantaneously as she noticed who it was.  The smile that had been on her face was replaced by her usual mask.

He didn't have time to make a comment because as he walked through the trees he heard a sound from behind.  He barely responded in time to prevent a dagger from plunging itself into his flesh and only managed to topple over sideways as his attacker rolled over the top of him.  He kicked his legs into the air causing her to land further away and giving him just enough time to return to his feet.  As he stood he had no time to brace before his attacker came crashing into him, he looked to the face of his attacker and saw a smile that had been haunting his dreams...it was the Bosmer from Farragut, she had survived.

Despite the fact that she was attacking him Alandauron couldn't help but smile back at her, she did have a beautiful smile after all.  As the two clashed Alandauron was taken to the ground by a quick sweep from the Bosmer, she lept on top of him and thrust the dagger downward, Alandauron caught it just short of his chest.

Dens-Rima

Dens heard the kerfuffle and responded in kind. His horse carried him as swiftly as the wind to the commotion. As he saw Alandauron and the Bosmer engaged in combat, he readied his warhammer. The Argonian shifted the weight into the head of the weapon. He reeled back so that it lifted above the horse's head.

In a single move he leapt from the horse and swung the hammer at the Bosmer's side.

*She had been thinking about the fact that she knew some of her family was still alive when Al had made his presence known, she could tell he had no good news for her simply by the look on her face, which of course had put her into an instantly sour mood. She was momentarily stunned by the sudden attack however, how had she not heard the newcomers approach? Had they been there for a while? She was frozen to the spot by the sudden realization that she recognized the style of fighting that this new attacker was using. How had Iniana found her? Her heart jumped into her throat and she felt any colour that had been there before leave her face as she realized fully what was going on, and how bad it could turn and how quickly it was turning that way. Katriel's eyes widened and her face held her far of family getting hurt as the hammer was swung also before she could say anything, she needed to stop this before anyone got more hurt...or worse...she couldn't think what it would do to her if that happened....or what she might do to her friends if they were the ones to do it. She surged forward, jumping over the fire that she had been stoking just moments before in one great leap, she knew her hope to maybe get to Iniana before the hammer did was useless, even if she had been in top form there would have only been a sliver of a chance, in her condition now however it was utterly impossible. *

"Iniana! Look out!"

*she heard the fear in her own voice, but she wasn't concerned about that right now, she was simply concerned for Iniana*

Iniana

She frowned as she heard the sound of hooves quickly approaching, this intruder must have had backup coming.  Without looking Iniana released the dagger and with an exact timing that surprised herself managed to lay down almost flat just as the Warhammer swung across what would have been her chest.  Just as the hammer passed beyond her she threw her feet up, and over her head causing her to back-lit first to her hands and then gracefully to her feet.

Iniana landed just in front of the quickly approaching Katrina and threw her right hand back to stop her mentor while drawing another dagger in her left hand.  Her smile quickly returned to her face as she took a stance readying herself for their next move.

Alandauron

He watched as the Bosmer rolled gracefully backwards and then continued into a sort of flip which landed her back on her feet.  The nimble mer was quite impressive to watch.  Alandauron leaned to his side and then stood and began dusting himself off, he held a hand out to his side to let Dens know not to continue his attack.

"Friend of yours Katriel?"

*she sighed in relief as she slowed and placed a hand on Iniana's shoulder. She smiled at the girl before directing her gaze to Alandauron, her eyes sparkling*

"she's more like family than a friend....Al, meet Iniana, she was one of the children I looked after in the caravan, and my favorite student at that"

*Katriel then turned to Iniana, an inquisitive look in her eyes*

"how did you find us Iniana?"

*a sudden memory of the last time she had seen Iniana hit her full in the face, and it was evident by the way her face darkened with her sudden temper rising, however, she didn't react outwardly to the anger she felt inside for Iniana suddenly vanishing as she had, but that didn't mean that she was completely off the hook for her reckless behavior right after such a bloody battle. Katriel met the girl eyes, getting across that she wasn't simply going to let that slide by so simply, but that she was indeed glad that Iniana was safe and that she had finally come back*

Alandauron

He struggled to keep his jaw from dropping as Katriel's mask was completely removed, a smile on her face, a sparkle in her eye.  He had never imagined that he'd see so much of Katriel revealed, at least not all at once.  Though he noticed Katriel's expressions out of the corner of his eye he kept his eyes locked on the Bosmer, and hers were on him as well.  He imagined she hadn't forgotten their fight back at Farragut any more than he had.

He started to speak when he noticed Jiub appear on the opposite side of the camp flanked by two of his scouts, Alandauron recognized both of the scouts but only knew one of them by name.  Jiub had moved up under General Talbor, especially after the battle at Farragut.  Jiub had been out scouting with a small group when the fighting had started, until the battle was over no one had realized that Jiub's small force had been responsible for taking out one of the large groups that were retreating.  They had also played a valuable role in picking off stragglers during the fighting, their use of stealth and bows had earned each of them dozens of kills during the fighting.

Since Jiub had made the calls all on his own and made such a huge impact on the battle General Talbor had placed him in charge of all scouting and messenger duties.

As Alandauron watched the Bosmer she stood up completely, but she did not relax, her tightened muscles showed she was still ready for a fight.

"I must see what Jiu---"

Iniana

She purposely interrupted the Dunmer that had kicked her as he began to speak.

"Katriel, remember during that battle, when you asked if I had been kicked?"

Iniana spoke without turning to look at Katriel, keeping the smile on her face as she spoke.

"This is the Dunmer responsible for that footprint on my chest."

Her smile grew even wider as she watched Alandauron's face flush and muscles tense.

Surprisingly, Dens leapt to Alandauron's side.

"Easy, all. This mer is under my oath's protection. Who are you, and what is your business here? The battle is over."

*She raised her eyebrows at the news that Iniana had shared with her, yet for some reason the news didn't surprise her, after all, Alandauron was a capable fighter and the way they both had reacted to seeing each other again tonight made it clear that they had crossed blades before. She let out a silent sigh and shook her head, muttering something under her breath, If it had been someone else other than Alandauron who had kicked Iniana, she may have tried to pay them back, but right now he was going beyond what any friend would to help her out by trying to get information about the caravan which at the moment seemed as attainable as carrying water through a desert with a box that had holes in the bottom.*

"I'm sure you'll have the chance to pay him back for that Iniana...oblivion only knows the ways of payback you could come up with*

*She almost winced at the thought of some of the girls ideas she was sure were floating in Iniana's head...Katriel had learned not to get on her black list when she had been on the receiving end of some of those paybacks. She turned her eyes too Dens, replying flatly*

"Her name is Iniana and she is part of my family, I'll protect her more readily than almost anyone in house Hlaalu...she is no enemy and no one here will harm her, even if they could I doubt they would live to see another day for me to get my hands on them to get my point across..."

*She glanced over her shoulder at Jiub, she and him had a very...interesting....relationship, no one, not even them, could tell if they hated each other or if they were friends. Either way Katriel wasn't sure if his presence now made her glad or if it simply set her more on edge than she was...truth was it was some of both. It bothered her that Jiub was better at being unseen than she was, but she took pride in knowing that the only way he was was with using Magick, she on the other hand never used an ounce, so in her mind that made her better...even though it was a childish thing for her to do.*

Iniana

She almost gasped at Katriel's response, she had been hoping for Katriel to leap at Alandauron and then be able to enjoy watching the Dunmer be beaten for a short while.  Instead her mentor just sighed and essentially told her to get over it.

Her demeanor changed and the smile that she always wore disappeared from her face while her muscles relaxed and shoulders began to droop.  She turned to Katriel with a defeated look on her face, almost a pout, and tilted her head sideways gesturing that she was not happy with the response.  Iniana finally sheathed her dagger and surrendered to the idea that this particular fight was over, but Katriel was right, she was certain she could come up with a fun way to get pay back.

Alandauron

As the Bosmer finally relaxed she took on an almost comical appearance as she emphasized every movement while turning to Katriel, obviously to show her disappointment.  Alandauron thought her actions were cute and let out an audible chuckle which was met promptly by a glare from the Bosmer, the chuckle got caught in his throat causing him to cough awkwardly.  Without saying another word Alandauron turned before his face could flush again from the embarrassment and moved off toward Jiub.

"It is good to see you Jiub, to what do I owe this honor."

Jiub gave a slight bow of his head and greeted Alandauron in the Dunmeri tongue.

"Juli sin Councillor Andrethi.  Forgive me for getting right to it, General Talbor has requested your presence back at Farragut.  He needs you and Falauren to take command at the fort while he tends to some political matters back in Narsis."

"Very well, this matter with Katriel is important though."

Alandauron paused and looked back to Katriel before addressing Jiub once again.

"I assume you have other matters to attend to for General Talbor?"

Jiub simply nodded.

"Very well, leave these two under Katriel's charge and I will accompany you."

Jiub motioned to his scouts and they nodded back to him.  Alandauron held up a hand telling them to wait a moment.

"I will introduce the two of you to the group."

The first of the scouts was a Dunmer, Davis Hlaalu, that had been with the Great House Hlaalu since birth, and General Talbor since their expedition to Davon's Watch, he had been under Teatish's charge originally and worked alongside Jiub on several minor missions before they were stationed at Fort Farragut.  The other was a Khajiit that Alandauron had never met, Jiub introduced her to Alandauron before the group headed over to the others in the camp.

"Everyone, I have been called back to Fort Farragut by Idas.  Katriel, I am sorry, but I cannot accompany you any further.  These two will escort you anywhere you feel you need to go, they are under your command Katriel.  The Dunmer is Davis Hlaalu, a loyal member of Hlaalu.  The Khajiit is new to our branch but Jiub has complete trust in her abilities.  Use them however you feel that you need to."

Alandauron turned to the Bosmer and smiled, surprisingly she returned his smile.

"It seems your payback will have to wait until a later day, it was nice to...run into you again."

Alandauron felt his cheeks warming up as he spoke and squirmed awkwardly while trying to regain control.

*She simply smiled at Iniana slightly as the girl pouted at her and ruffled her hair as she had so long ago when she had been teaching the girl, basically telling her that pouting wasn't going to change her mind. The news that Alandauron had to go was definitely not good news, he had been the one to help her the most, but she would never tell him that she wasn't happy about him leaving, she felt if she disclosed that information that somehow that would make her seem incapable somehow. She nodded to the scouts as they were introduced, it was a weird feeling having people that weren't volunteering following her commands, she had never had people under her, in any way, she wasn't sure she liked the feeling.*

"It is understandable, I thank you for all you have done for my cause Alandauron. I will try and see if I can get a message to you if anything important is found out since you have put so much energy into this."

*Her mind began to work as to where to look, where they already hadn't, for any information....she had a feeling that the only place to get information however, was actually the last place she remembered the caravan to be, yet that was a long journey and she wasn't sure just how far these people around her would be willing to go simply to stay her curiosity...*

Alandauron

After a moment he nodded to the group and then turned to Dens.  He motioned for him to follow and when the two were far enough away from the others he spoke.

"You and I don't exactly see eye to eye, of this I am aware.  I was hoping however that your oath to Vehk might extend to another that he cared for greatly.  Katriel is in need of assistance in her current endeavor, will you help her?"

As the Dunmer walked away Iniana stuck her tongue out at him and frowned.  She would get even with him at some point and she would have fun doing it.  Even so it irked her that he wouldn't be around to torment... or maybe she just enjoyed his company...no, it couldn't be that.

Suddenly she remembered why she had come to this town.  She had heard that one of her old friends, also one of Katriel's cubs, was attached to a scouting unit that was due in town soon for a break.

"Katriel, one of our family is supposed to be stopping by here in the next couple of days.  He's attached to a group of scouts that is going on reprieve for a few days."

Dens-Rima

Dens shook his head.

"My oath to Vehk is... confused at this point."

He put his hands to his hips, leaned back, sighed, and finally surrendered.

"But I have no quarrel with the thief. Until I see her steal, my Code informs me she is an innocent, and one I am obligated to aid. I will help, but I would like to speak to Vehk first."

*Katriel was more than a little surprised by the news that they happened to be in the town one of her family members were going on vacation in. Finally a bit of luck! Her excitement showed in her eyes, she wasn't one to get her hopes up prematurely after all, who knows how much some of them might have changed or if they would even remember her. But it was, after all, goof news all the same*

"any idea of who it is Iniana? That would help narrow down the search for them if we had some indicator of what they actually looked like"
