“I’m only saying the General could have sent a horse at least, then it wouldn’t have taken so long to get there, Jiub.”  Alandauron’s companion was in a foul mood, probably because he hadn’t stopped talking for most of the journey, but he wasn’t about to stop now.  The rain was cold and since Alandauron hadn’t been prepared to walk the entire way he hadn’t brought a change or worn gear appropriate for the journey.

“Serjo the General only told me to retrieve you, he gave no instruction to bring something to carry your tender feet.”  Alandauron caught a slight smile from Jiub after the comment, “This is how I usually travel out here, makes it harder to be spotted.”

Despite his level of comfort and mood from the journey Jiub’s comment inspired a chuckle from Akandauron, “Yes, I guess I do sound rather pompous and privileged right now don’t I?  See what being a Councilor brings you, even though I still fight alongside my brethren my expectations have changed quite a bit.”  Jiub suddenly stopped in place and held up his hand for Alandauron to be quiet, he did so and followed Jiub’s lead peering through the trees as they went.

After several minutes of moving briskly from one place of cover to the next Alandauron finally broke the silence, “I haven’t spotted anything yet Jiub.  What is that you saw?”

“Nothing serjo, was just seeing how long you would remain silent.”  Alandauron let out a laugh and decided that he would continue the journey quietly, at least for now.

As he marched into the city of Narsis Alandauron took note that he had no greeting from the guard, they simply allowed him to pass and informed him of where he could find General Talbor.  He was puzzled about the greeting, no one treated him with disrespect or gave him sneers, nor did they give him any honors the way a Councilor of one of the Great Houses of Morrowind should be greeted.  He shrugged it off thinking that his appearance merely made them more relaxed with their tone toward him.  It had been several hard days that they had traveled, from the edge of Cyrodil all the way to the seat of Great House Hlaalu in Narsis.  The weather had turned foul on the day prior and without proper gear or extra clothes Alandauron looked and smelled quite foul, he needed to get himself cleaned up before he went before the General.

As Alandauron finished dressing himself following a bath and a shave he searched through the drawers for proper clothing, the only thing that had been provided him in the room was traveling gear, leather and cloth, and a set of rags, this had to be a mistake.  He did the best as he could and dressed himself in the traveling gear before heading toward the door.  He stepped through the door, closed it behind him and turned to move toward the General's office when he saw General Talbor sitting in the hallway a few paces away.

"General, my apologies if I kept you waiting, serjo." Alandauron gave a slight bow of his head before Idas held up his hand signaling him to relax.

"Walk with me Alandauron."

They walked silently for awhile, Alandauron could tell that Idas was considering how to approach the coming conversation, he had seen this look from the General on many occasions.  "General, how have things been since Fort Farragut?"

The General didn't answer immediately and just kept walking for a moment before stopping and turning to Alandauron, "It has been a difficult time for us, my friend.  I had to make some...tough decisions for the good of our Great House."

"The trials of a great leader, I'm sure you made the best decisions you were able to." Aladauron smiled slightly hoping to get a smile in return, or anything other than the General's business look.  Idas started walking again, remaining quiet until they were outside and no longer in the hallway.

"The Grand Council has decided that my command is going to be changing, no longer will I be leading the same group of Councilors and House members, I am being reassigned.  They have also informed me that some of my Councilors have not performed according to Hlaalu standards, specifically in reference to you."

Alandauron stopped in his tracks, what was this he was saying, the Grand Council was saying he was not performing acceptably, it had to be a mistake.  Alandauron had been sure to make friends in places to protect his assets and position in the House, surely they had spoke on his behalf.

The General paused for a moment and Alandauron could tell that he made a decision.  The General's voice took on the commanding tone it normally had when addressing his Councilors and he turned and looked Alandauron in the eyes, "You have been stripped of your titles and position, your assets have been seized by House Hlaalu, you are no longer affiliated with my command.  Should you wish you may remain a member of Hlaalu, but you will hold the title Retainer until you have earned a position within the House again."

Alandauron struggled for a moment to swallow a lump that had suddenly caught in his throat, was this a joke...no the General didn't joke about such matters.  He had lost everything, what of his--"Serjo Talbor, what of my holdings, what of the lodge?"

"You have no holdings, everything that you gained through Hlaalu has been stripped and returned to the House."  General Talbor leaned in slightly closer and lowered his voice almost to a whisper, "I have done what I can to provide you with enough supplies and funding to live off, someone will meet you later and take you to what I salvaged for you."  He raised his voice again before repeating, "You have no holdings!"

Alandauron was still shocked, he had heard the General in regards to doing what he could but still couldn't believe that just like that everything he had worked for, all the power and wealth he had achieved, it was just gone.  Alandauron bowed his head slightly and then turned and walked away, not waiting to be dismissed.  He had to reach his contacts in Hlaalu and see what they could do for him.

"Halt!"

Alandauron was startled, it had been quite awhile since he had been stopped before going into Nilonii's kinhouse.  "I have business with the lady Girano, please let me pass."  The guards looked him over and then gestured towards the gate leading off the property, Alandauron looked down and suddenly realized why they had stopped him.  "No, you don't understand, this is my military gear, my robes are...being cleaned, now stand aside!" Alandauron's tone became that of a commander issuing an order, the guards paused in response to the command.

"We'll pass on a message to the lady, remain here while we do." The guard that was speaking nodded to a runner near the entrance who darted inside, a few moments later the runner came out and whispered something to the guard.  "Serjo Girano says she doesn't not recognize you and requests that you leave immediately."  The guard pauses for a moment then shoves Alandauron backwards and toward the gate.

As Alandauron stumbles backward for a moment he reaches for and draws his Dwemer blade and places it on the throat of the guard, stunned the guard is unable to respond and freezes when he feels the cold blade on his throat.  "Let the lady Girano know that unless she wants to see her guards cut open and laying on the ground she will see me promptly."  The other guards have already drawn steel and stand ready to leap into action, only hesitating due to the fact that their commander had a blade to his throat.

"Alandauron that is no way to treat a fellow Hlaalu." the voice is soft and soothing, Alandauron recognizes it instantly, "Now put that thing away."

"Good day to you Nilonii, why was I not welcomed in?"

"You must forgive my manners Al, I did not recognize you without your fancy attire, please put away your blade and come inside."  Alandauron gave a wink to the guard and withdrew his blade, sheathing it promptly, then turned and started walking to the house.  "Seize the fool!"  Before Alandauron could respond the guards were on top of him, there were three of them, 2 each grabbed an arm, twisted them behind his back, and forced Alandauron to his knees.  The third guard, their commander, came around in front and kicked him in his gut.  "Now stop that!  I told you to seize him, not beat him."

"What is this Nilon--"

"You will refer to me with the respect I deserve Al, I am serjo Girano to you.  Did you think that I would let you take me down with you?  I was surprised your General managed to escape without punishment, he must have some good friends in Hlaalu, but you, once I told them of the things you reported to me...you were finished.  Working with vampires, murdering members from the other Great Houses, the Grand Council was all to anxious to see you promptly removed."  Nilonii Girano turned and walked back to the entry of her kinhouse, "Remove this n'wah from here."  She disappeared behind the doors and Alandauron felt himself being lifted and carried, once they reached the gateway he was thrown through the air and ended up impacting a rock in the center of his back.

Pain shot through Alandauron but he got to his feet quickly anyway, anticipating some sort of attack following the toss.  To his surprise the guards weren't preparing to engage him and were simply heading back to their posts.  How had this happened?  Was it his fault that everything was going wrong with Idas' faction within Hlaalu?  No, it couldn't be.  As he started away from the manor he was approached by an Ashlander slave, they delivered a message to him and then ran off.

Alandauron,

I am sorry that this is happening but there was nothing I could do to help, after the Grand Council received the reports on our actions they didn't want to listen to anything I had to say.  Head to the southern gate of Narsis, there someone will escort you to the supplies I left for you.  Your lodge will remain unoccupied for the next few weeks while it is discussed who the property will go to, after that you're on your own.  I wish you the best and hope our paths cross again under more favorable conditions.

General Idas Talbor

Alandauron couldn't believe it, that was it, everything he had worked for over the past couple years was gone.  He was grateful to Idas for securing him some time to say good-bye to his Lodge along with whatever provisions he was to receive, but Alandauron had no idea what he was going to do going forward.
